Personal Training for Men
Training is intimidating.
Walking into a weights room is one of the most daunting things anyone has ever done.
It's one thing looking at the front page of a magazine or watching the avengers and seeing all of these muscular, masculine men. It's another training alongside them when you are a complete beginner.
I remember my first time in a public gym.
I was 16 and I was already nearly a black belt in Tae-kwondo so I was no stranger to training, per se.
The weights room was a different animal altogether.
There were dumbbells everywhere, bigger, stronger, more experienced men training away and I was like a fish out of water.
I actually hated it so much that I set up a gym out my back garden in my shed and refused to train in a public gym for 6 or 7 years.
The reason I wouldn’t train in public was because I wasn’t sure what I was doing was either correct or going to get me the result I was after. Also, nobody could see me doing everything wrong and injuring myself all of the time in the back garden.
In hindsight, if I had just asked for assistance the gym wouldn’t have been as intimidating as I thought.
Think of the confidence you would have in that weights area if you knew what you were doing was both technically correct and worthwhile.
In the ABS Gym, a large percentage of our clients are men looking to get in shape, i.e. losing weight and/or gaining muscle. Some of which are there for a few months at a time to learn proper technique and gain the confidence to go to the gym by themselves. Others are there long term because the public gym scene just doesn’t appeal to them and they don’t have a shed out their back garden, so the ABS gym is the next best thing.
